Teenage Engineering OP-XY

A mixing desk for the OP-XY. Three rows across all eight tracks, then a master page.

The OP-XY works on one track at a time. Everything you turn lands on whichever track is selected, so changing the balance of a pattern means selecting, turning, selecting, turning. This puts all eight tracks in front of you at once: level, filter cutoff and FX I send, a row each. Sweep every filter together, ride two levels with two hands, and mute any track from any page, because the mute buttons repeat across all four pages so they are always under your thumb.

Page 4 is the whole machine rather than one track: the three EQ bands, tempo, groove, and the scenes. Groove has a centre detent so you can feel neutral without looking.

The scene knobs click through sixteen scenes each, labelled, and land on the next bar. Two things make that the right way round. A continuous knob would fire every scene it swept past, so going from scene 1 to scene 10 would trigger nine section changes on the way. And a detented knob is the only kind that can show you where it is, because these knobs display their step label. The first covers scenes 1 to 16, the second 17 to 32. If you would rather scenes land the instant you turn, change CC 82 to CC 85.

Page 3 is Send to FX I. If you work on the second bus instead, open the page in ROTO-SETUP and change CC 38 to CC 39 on all eight knobs. Nothing else moves. Track pan is the same one-page swap if you would rather have it: CC 10, channels 1 to 8, and give the knobs a centre detent.

The track parameter knobs are deliberately left out. CC 12 to 15 are the OP-XY's four encoders, and what they do depends on the engine loaded on that track: Tone, Ratio, Shape and Tremolo on Axis, but Table, Position, Warp and Drift on Wavetable. One label cannot cover eight engines, so those belong in a setup built for the engine you are running.

Level, mute, EQ and the globals come from Teenage Engineering's own CC reference table. The filter and the sends come from midi.guide's community MIDI database (CC BY-SA 4.0), originally worked out on hardware by OP-XY owner ar8ch. The setup has been run on a Roto-Control against a real OP-XY.
